We’ve rightly been chastised for sending emails with all our events on, but not putting anything onto the website for new visitors or people wanting to check details. So as reformed characters, here’s our post of future events:
Saturday 5th October: Our MP, Liam Fox, has agreed to attend a public meeting about climate change, organised by Sustainable Pill And District. There will be 3 sections to the event: First of all, there will be a SPAD presentation explaining why climate change needs to be taken really seriously; secondly, Dr Fox has been asked to respond; finally there will be a Question Time style question and answer session, with a panel of 3 people –Dr Fox, Bevis Watts the new Chief Executive of the Avon Wildlife Trust, and Jenneth Parker, the Director of Research for the Schumacher Institute. Whatever you think, this will be your chance to get a better understanding of Climate Change and ask the questions you want answered. The meeting starts at 7.30 p.m. on 5 October, in the Theatre at St Katherine’s School (on Pill Road, close to the junction with the A369).
They want to send a message that there are a lot of people really concerned about climate change so do come if you can. It is FREE and we’ve reserved 20 tickets, so turn up and say you heard of the event through us and you should be allowed in. I’m busy thinking of constructive questions to ask….
Thursday 17th October: Green Drinks – a social drink, just to catch up and put the world to rights. Venue to be confirmed.
Saturday 26th October: our last stall for the year at the Farmers’ Market – please bring any produce you’d like to swap, or just come and meet us for a chat.
Saturday & Sunday 2nd/3rd November: apple harvest at the community orchard off Brookfield Walk and Kettling Grove – see website for map etc. DATE and TIME TO BE CONFIRMED DEPENDING ON WEATHER ETC. Please come and help pick up cider apples – even half an hour would help. No doubt we’ll have cake…
Wednesday 6th November: Make and Mend at the Spinning Weal, Hill Road, 7pm-9pm. Whether you have unstarted or unfinished sewing or knitting projects, or would like some help learning to sew on a button or darn an old favourite jumper, this Make and Mend session is free (Thanks Sarah!), you only need to pay for any materials you use such as cotton, buttons etc. And what’s particularly good is that the sewing machines are hand-operated so won’t increase your carbon footprint (v transitional!). There’ll be another session on Dec 11th, and if it proves popular we’ll move to monthly in 2014.
Saturday 9th November: POSTPONED: this quiz clashed with another quiz in Clevedon on the same day, so we will rearrange it, probably for January so we can something to look forward to in the New Year. fundraising and social quiz, at St Mary’s Walton.
