Information for Wassailing

When: 3pm on Saturday 12 January

Where: the Community Orchard. Turn off Northern Way into Brookfield Walk, at the corner with Ketling Grove there is a gate leading into a field. Follow the path  across this small field and into the next. The orchard is behind the big hedge (see map on our projects orchard page).

What: wassailing is a traditional West country event to wake up the apple trees and to scare off evil spirits. The Morris Men from Bristol will be there to start the festivities, followed by the wassailing song, the banging of pots and pans and the consumption of mulled cider, apple juice and apple cake – so please bring old pans and wooden spoons. And wear wellies or other appropriate footwear as the orchard will be muddy.

Who: everyone will be welcome – the event is family friendly as children are encouraged to make lots of noise!

How much: free of charge, although donations towards refreshments and entertainment will be welcome
