We had a fantastic clearing session at the Community Orchard on bank holiday Monday, and 20 people turned up to help and enjoyed the picnic. A lot of undergrowth was cleared from under the apple trees in preparation for apple picking in October. A big Thank You to everyone who participated. Another session will be organised for later this month, so there is still plenty of chance to get involved.
Summer is nearly over, but we have a number of exciting events coming up to take you into the autumn. There will be a fantastic Community Barn Dance, the Big Knit 2011, Transition Town Clevedon Annual Gathering, and a Clevedon Civic Society Walk which will go via the Community Orchard. There will of course be Green Drinks at the Old Inn and the monthly Farmers Market.
Tuesday 6th September – The Big Knit 2011. The Spinning Weal on Hill Road will be participating in the Big Knit 2011 at 6.30pm on Tuesday 6th September. Come along and help knit hats in support of Age UK. This is in association with Innocent Drinks where knitters across the country are knitting small hats to go on drink bottles. For every behatted bottle sold, 25p is donated to Age UK. Further information about the Big Knit can be found at www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/bigknit . If you don’t already knit this is a great introduction to knitting. The Londis Store (next to the West End Post Office in Old Church Road) is acting as a collection point for the little hats, as is the Age UK shop. If you bring 5 or more hats, you will be given a raffle ticket for a mystery prize. Closing date is Friday 7th October.
Tuesday 20th September – Green Drinks at the Old Inn from 7.30pm. If you haven’t been to Green Drinks before, this is a great way to get to know other people who are involved in Transition Clevedon, and enjoy some of the Old Inn’s great local ales and ciders.
Saturday 24th September – monthly Farmers Market at Queen’s Square. The Farmers Market has a fantastic selection of local cheeses, fruit juices, fruit and veg, breads, cakes and meat, and more! We will be having our usual stall with plant swap and Transition information. Bring a surplus plant and get one you want in return. If you don’t have anything to swap then a small donation would also be welcome.
Tuesday 27th September – Clevedon Civic Society Footpath Walk at 10am. Starts and ends at the Old Inn. This walk lasts about 1½to 2 hours and will go via the Community Orchard. Visitors are welcome.
Tuesday 27th September – Transition Clevedon Annual Gathering at Clevedon Town Council office, Old Street at 7.30pm. There will be some interesting talks about what has happened over the last year, and plans for the coming year. This will be an interactive event where you can get involved and have your say about what you would like to do and see happen. There will be refreshments and this will be followed by the Transition Clevedon AGM, which all are welcome to stay for.
Last but not least…..
